Our blends cover the range of our four different roast levels, each indicated with the description for that blend. Guide to Roast Levels
Medium Our standard roast, where the beans are reddish brown in color without visible oil on the surface. This roast best characterizes the balance of acidity, flavor and taste of the coffee itself. At this level the coffee will maintain all it’s bright, clean character.
Full City We also call this our dark roast or Viennese. The first level above our Medium, the coffee is roasted just enough to where the natural oils are just beginning to appear on the surface of the bean. The flavor and body is stronger than the medium roast, with less acidity. Dark roast coffee is excellent for either drip or French press methods.
French Definitely a heavy roast with a caramelized taste. Much of the individual varietal and bright acidity characteristic of coffee has been replaced with a heavy taste that stays on the palate. The coffee is roasted to where the natural oils develop on the surface of the beans shortly after roasting.
Italian Our darkest roast, heavy body with an intense flavor, the taste is almost smoky. The coffee is roasted longer and to a higher temperature than French roast, to where the coffee oils appear on the beans at the end of the roast cycle. The flavor lingers.
Note: As a blend is, by definition, a mix of different single origin coffees, the characteristics of each coffee such as acidity, flavor, and body, are also mixed together. Also with blends, the various roast levels affect the original characteristics greatly. (i.e. - All 'darkest' roasts have high body, and almost no acidty.) Therefore, the "Guide to Coffee Characteristics" used in the single origin descriptions doesn't apply in a logical way to blend descriptions, so graphic charts for acidity/body/flavor are not included below.
Medium Roast Blends
GATEWAY BLEND A blend of both medium and full city roasted coffee. The taste is heavier than our House Blend, but less so than Full City blend. For those who want slightly more flavor than a straight medium roast. The coffee has medium acidity, medium body, and full flavor taste.
JOE'S BLEND A blend of Central America, South American, and East African coffees. This medium roasted coffee is our most popular blend, and our first. With more body and taste than our House blend, the taste is slightly spicy, excellent aroma, and a very pleasant lingering aftertaste.
MOKKA JAVA BLEND Most likely, this is the original blend of coffee in the world dating back to when the Dutch East India Company first introduced coffee to Europe. This is a blend of East African coffee characterized as having an intense flavor and fruitiness and blending it with a heavy bodied earthy coffee from the island country of Java in Indonesia.
HOUSE BLEND An excellent well-balanced blend of Central and South American coffees with a smooth, clean taste, medium body, and a fine finish. A great coffee to use as an everyday or breakfast blend.
KONA BLEND A True blend of genuine Kona coffee and Central American coffees. The taste is rich and pleasing with just the right balance of acidity, body, and flavor, producing a clean and bright cup of coffee.
ST. LOUIS BLEND Roast Level - Medium & Full City A blend of Central and South American coffees with a small amount of a dark roast coffee added, but not so much as to give it a dark roasted taste. This is an excellent after dinner coffee which is well balanced for taste and flavor.
Dark Roast Blends
AM BLEND Roast Level - Italian A dark roasted blend of some of east Africa’s finest coffees. If you like your coffee dark and oily with a bold definitive taste, then this one’s for you.
FRENCH ROAST Roast Level – French(!) A dark roasted coffee with a hardy flavor. With the dark roast the caramelized taste is full and rich, with a very pleasant aftertaste. This is a full bodied coffee without the bitterness often found in some dark roasted coffee. We are able to obtain this characteristic by being able to achieve the dark roast at lower temperatures
ITALIAN ROAST Roast Level - Italian Classic South American coffee, meticulously roasted to our darkest roast. Rich, caramelized taste and pleasant aftertaste, with no burn.
SWEDISH BLEND Roast Level - French & Medium Fuller than our St. Louis Blend, because of the different coffees used and the addition of French roast, but not so heavy as to have a smoky taste. Still smooth enough for most palates.
VOLCAN BLEND Roast Level - Italian Our darkest roast, this unique favorite is a blend of five different coffees. Very rich, but still smooth, with no harsh, dark-roast bite.
CAFÉ BLEND Roast Level - French Darker roast, rich and smooth, with exceptional body. Coffees from the Americas and Indonesia. A very satisfying cup, with perfect balance and no bitterness.
FULL CITY BLEND Roast Level - Full City A combination of Central and South American coffees that are roasted darker to a “full city roast.” The flavor is more intense than our medium roast, but because of the quality of the coffees used, the taste is very clean and pleasant, without harshness. This is one of our more popular blends that is low in acidity. The taste will linger on the palate.
NEW ORLEANS w/ Chicory Roast Level - French This is a heavy, intense, full flavored blend that is certainly an early morning wake up coffee. A dark, French roasted coffee, combined with roasted and ground chicory. The taste is sharp with a long-lasting finish for those who desire a little something extra in their coffee.
VIENNESE ROAST Roast Level - Full City A slightly darker roast with a rich, full bodied chocolate-like taste. Very pleasing without being too dark.
